Project Description:
In this project, each student will be paired with a student writer from the “Writing Ecologies of Self” project to collaboratively create a narrative work through dance and writing. Together, students will choose an element of nature (broadly defined) to research and compose with. We will meet three times a week to go on inspirational nature outings, to review and practice movement that incorporates personal experience into histories and ecologies of the natural world, and to workshop our works in progress--with the goal of curating a final display of our group’s projects at the culmination of the term. Students will work in the genres of contemporary dance and hip-hop to practice choreographing/dancing the self into and through entanglements with nature. Final projects will creatively bring dance and written work together to tell our stories in experimental and daring ways. An interest in dancing and a passion for nature required.
