This project will be completed remotely. This project is intended for Conservatory students who did not complete a project during the January winter term session. A&S students (who have been approved to participate in the May/June winter term session) must receive permission from the sponsor to join.
Project Description:
Group Project Goal: To observe and practice pedagogical strategies for teaching diverse music student populations online; to explore administrative aspects of teaching private lessons.
Students will work online with faculty and students from the Colorado Springs Conservatory (CSC), providing lessons to middle- and high-school instrumental students. This group project will include a week of general music pedagogy (week 1) before you work with a CSC mentor teacher and their private students (weeks 2, 3). You will assist and lead lessons appropriate to your strengths and comfort level (i.e., conduct warm-ups, co-teach a segment of a private lesson, provide feedback to the student learner, administrative tasks, etc.). All project students will meet as a group weekly (via Zoom) to discuss your experiences with students and teachers in the past week.
This project is open to Conservatory majors, specifically students interested in piano, string, voice, guitar, woodwind, & brass music teaching and learning. College of Arts & Sciences students will need consent from the instructor before applying for this project.
