Project Description:
There's a Yiddish saying that there's nothing more whole than a broken heart. Everyone suffers heartbreak, and yet it's singularly difficult to communicate. We will explore how contemporary authors and composers walk a double-edge of pain and love in order to "translate" heartbreak. We will meet weekly to discuss assigned texts and to practice close reading and active listening, and students will keep a daily reading and listening journal and produce a final reflection, including an optional creative piece. Works by Beyoncé, Lisa Bielawa, Rachel Cusk, Lydia Davis, Geir Gulliksen, Joy Ladin, and others.

Dates: 1/3/20 - 1/28/20

Number of students: 10

Project Fee: $50
