Program Description:
For over thirty years I have used Winter Term for introducing musicians to the wonderful string instrument, the viol. It was used frequently in renaissance and baroque music and has a literature of both solo and ensemble music that is unparalleled.  We meet an hour daily as a class in addition to daily practice. After the 4 weeks, students are able to play consort music: the contrapuntal ensemble music for 3-6 viols that is so satisfying for both professional and amateur musicians. College as well as Conservatory string players are encouraged to enroll. Instruments and music are provided.

There is no fee associated with this course.

Number of students: 8

Dates: January 6th - January 28th, 2020
