Advanced Studies in England
Semester/Full Year Program
Come and study for a fifteen-week semester, or two-semester 'full year' in the beautiful World Heritage City of Bath, 90 minutes west of London.
We offer courses in a wide range of
liberal arts subjects, in particular creative writing, English literature and history. Through strong connections with
University College Oxford and other institutions we can also offer a 'bespoke', tailor-made tutorial in almost any subject not based in a laboratory.
Students take four courses, taught over twelve weeks by UK professors in small seminar group (maximum of 13 students) or one-on-one, Oxford-style tutorials. We also have a very strong
internship program, with opportunities to work in local organisations such as the Roman Baths Museum, Bath Preservation Trust, 44AD Art Space and Gallery, Suited and Booted independent Filmmakers, M Shed Museum, the Natural Theatre Company, The Jane Austen Centre, and many others. We also run a successful
education program, incorporating a classroom placement in a local school.
Students are housed in historic townhouses throughout the city center, within easy walking distance of the Roman Baths, the Abbey, galleries, museums, and an array of pubs and restaurants, theatres and music venues.
The program includes a week-long residential at University College, Oxford, and a three-day stay in Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of playwright and poet, William Shakespeare. The program also offers extensive opportunities for extra-curricular integration with British students (Bath has two universities) and the local community.

The World Heritage City of Bath
Our study centre is situated at the heart of the beautiful, eighteenth-century city of Bath, 90 minutes west of London. Academic Excellence
Established in 1987, Advanced Studies in England (ASE) is proud of its reputation for academic excellence. Teaching takes place in small seminar groups (maximum 13 students) and tutorial-style classes. Courses are taught by highly-qualified British faculty, many from Oxford University, and the Programme enjoys ongoing academic ties with University College, Oxford. Our Academic Adviser, Professor Christopher Pelling - who appoints ASE's faculty - is Regius Professor of Greek at Oxford University.
Residentials and Study Trips
We aim to give all our students an insider's view of Britain, its history, landscape and culture. Each semester includes a week-long residential at University College, Oxford and three days in Stratford-upon-Avon, where we attend performances by the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company, and organized day trips to some of the hidden rural treasures of England and Wales. Many of our seminars also include study trips to course-connected locations and events.
Cultural Integration
An exciting and carefully structured social and cultural programme encourages students to learn about, and immerse themselves more fully in the life of the city. A team of Bath-based student helpers organizes weekly events and helps facilitate links with local volunteering agencies, clubs, sports teams and societies.
