Program Description:
What Is Winter Term?
Oberlin provides a Winter Term of four weeks in January to encourage and enable students to discover the value of self-education. Winter Term Projects come in various types; individual or as part of a group, on campus or off campus, domestic or international.

No matter the type, Winter Term Projects are meant to compliment, or in other ways supplement, the structured curriculum in which students participate during the academic year. The emphasis is on experimentation and creativity, intellectual independence, and personal responsibility. Winter Term Projects can include study abroad, an academic course, research, an internship, or any other type of project that has educational value.

Every Oberlin student is required to complete at least three Winter Term Projects before they graduate. What you decide to do during your Winter Term Projects, and what types in which you choose to participate, is completely up to you!

On-Campus Individual Projects
This type of project is designed and implemented by an individual student with guidance and approval from an on-campus sponsor (either faculty or staff). These types of projects require a high degree of planning, specific thoughts and ideas of what to study, research, or do, and lots of self-motivation to stay committed to the work required of your project.

The time commitment for a half project is three hours per weekday; the time commitment for a full project is five to six hours per weekday.

Please click the "Apply Now" button on the right side of the screen to begin the registration process for your On-Campus Individual Project
